Objective To investigate the effect of abnormal umbilical cord on mother and infant. Methods The clinical data of 682 maternal confirmed as umbilical cord abnormalities after hospitalization in our hospital from 2003 to 2005 were retrospectively analyzed and compared with 682 cases without umbilical cord abnormalities in the same period. Results Fetal distress, neonatal asphyxia, birth with low birth weight and cesarean section rate in the abnormal umbilical cord group were higher than those in the same period (P <0.01). Conclusion The umbilical cord abnormality is an important factor that leads to the birth of fetus with fetal distress, neonatal asphyxia and low birth weight, and increases the rate of cesarean section. Emphasis on prenatal examination, early diagnosis and appropriate measures can reduce its impact on maternal and infant Negative Effects.
