Folic acid deficiency is the most common nutritional disorder in chronic alcoholism. In addition to inadequate diet, reduced intestinal absorption and liver uptake, increased renal excretion, and oxidative cleavage of folate molecules can cause alcoholism in alcohol-induced chronic alcoholic folic acid deficiency.
