２０００年２月１８日，广渠门外五个工厂的原有用地将进行首批９个地块的公开拍卖。广外五厂总占地面积１０３公顷，除去现状房屋以外，可规划建筑面积１３０万平方米左右，该地区现已被分割为２１个地块，其中１６个有收益地块将进行拍卖，首批拍卖的９块地国，除了１块规划为大型公建与住宅结合，其余的８块全规划为住宅。这次拍卖只是一个开端，今后北京将有大量的工业用地采取这样的办法实现置换。
