Both the modern wool textile industry of China and Japan were imported from the West in the 1880s. However, Japan’s average wool textile production capacity is 10 times that of China today. The macro development of the wool textile industry in these two countries can be divided into four stages: the initial stage before 11913; the foundation stage from 21914 to 1936; the tortuous stage from 81937 to 1949; and the growth stage after 41950. However, the micro-analysis shows that there are many differences between the two countries. This article briefly describes these differences. Through this comparison, we can draw a number of common rules for the development of modern wool textile industry.
