在我看来,现在要描绘一番作为外语来教授的英语的情况远不如十年前容易。今天,教授英语的地方是如此之多,学习英语的人们及他们的学习目的是如此之纷繁,因此很难说对我们目前从事的工作有着一致的看法。教学工作分工不一,对于语言学理论与实际教学之间关系的见解也大相径庭。以前从事教学工作的教师们也许一味地听取很少任课执教的应用语言学家的意见,而现在则出现了与之相反的趋势。事实上,近年来许多有意义的创新来自教学实践而不是理论学说。
In my opinion, it is far less likely to describe English as a foreign language now than it was ten years ago. There are so many places to teach English today, and the people who study English and their learning purposes are so numerous that it is hard to say that we have a consistent view of what we are doing. The teaching work is divided into different divisions, and the opinions on the relationship between linguistic theory and actual teaching are also very different. Teachers who used to work in teaching may blindly listen to the opinions of applied linguists with few coaching staff, and now they are on the contrary. In fact, many meaningful innovations in recent years have come from teaching practice rather than theory.
