Some of the world’s hydropower in the 1980s In the early 1980s, hydropower stations in the world had a total capacity of 417 million kilowatts and a total generating capacity of over 1.7 trillion kilowatt-hours (accounting for more than 20% of the world’s generating capacity). Economic and water resources have utilized 17.5%. In the industrially developed capitalist countries, the total installed capacity of hydropower stations already built is 123 million kilowatts. Asia, Central America, South America and African countries have about 2/3 of the world’s hydropower resources, but only 8.5%. In these areas, undeveloped hydropower resources in developing countries exceeded 1.28 billion kilowatts, accounting for about 60% of the world’s hydropower reserves. Therefore, hydropower construction in developing countries has developed rapidly. Among the total installed capacity of hydropower plants in the world, the share of developing countries will increase from 20.8% in 1976 to 1985
