From August 2000 to January 2001, the archaeological team of Nanjing Museum Archeology Institute, Wuxi Museum, Jiangyin Museum and other units formed a rescue archeological excavation on the site of Qitou Mountain. A total of 39 pits were cleared and 132 tombs were unearthed. A large number of relics such as pottery, jade and stone ware were excavated. The site’s cultural features more distinctive, sites and relics are divided into four phases. The period of the first phase to the second phase is about the middle period of Majiabang culture. The period from the third phase to the fourth phase is about the late Majiabang culture. A few relics have entered the early Songze culture. The discovery of the site provided new information for studying the prehistoric culture in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
