《中国书法》杂志一九九二年第二期上发表了马啸同志《汉悬泉置遗址发掘书学意义重大》一文,同期封二还以彩色版刊载了“[汉]敦煌郡悬泉置遗址出土的新莽时期麻纸墨迹”的图片,马啸同志称这张纸为“王莽残纸”。但令人惊异的是这张残纸上的字迹,竟是较新莽时期晚二百多年以后的魏晋时期书体,而与以前出土的新莽时期简牍上的书体大相径庭。马啸同志也说:“《王莽残纸》之书风与钟(注:指曹魏时的钟繇)之《荐季直表》等帖的相似性,既是在外形上,也是在内在精神上:体势宽博、扁平、疏朗、用笔饱含隶意,如起笔直入,左右伸展的横画,丰肥异常的点、捺等;布局
