According to a new study, about one-third of the differences in disease progression observed among HIV-infected individuals are caused by HIV genetic differences and patient genetic differences. These findings suggest that patients’ genetic differences affect disease progression by triggering mutations in the HIV genome. Relevant findings are published in the journal PLoS Computational Biology. HIV-infected people experience different rates of disease progression.
