The high intensity and high efficiency of the excimer discharge makes it most likely to be a candidate for mercury-free fluorescent lamps. The general properties of excimer discharge are introduced. The progress in improving the discharge efficiency of excimer molecules is described in detail from both the tube light source and the planar light source. The micro hollow cathode discharge is also introduced.
