This paper describes the laboratory testing of wet grade high strength magnetic separators for the separation of medium grade iron ore. The factors to be considered for the magnetic separator of this type of dressing are discussed. This article also describes the design of a high-intensity magnetic separation process for an iron ore beneficiation plant that includes methods that provide flexibility in the operation of the concentrator and methods of providing suitable protection for high-field strength compartments. This paper describes the results of multi-year production at the concentrator and its production experience. This article provides data on the recovery rates for the various hematite fractions processed and compares them with the literature data. Possible ways to improve the mill selection criteria are discussed.
