Based on the semantic characteristics of infinitive and -ing participles as object and complement, this paper proposes a new method based on semantic features. For a long time, the predicate verbs are divided into different sub-categories, and then according to the classification, a more complete discussion of the collocation relationship between the infinitive and the -ing participles in the above sentence elements and the various verbs. The discussion reveals the inherent causes of this collocation, revealing the basic rules of the usage differences between the infinitive and the -ing participles as object and complement.
