Objective To observe the effect of serum trace elements in congenital bile duct dilatation. Methods The trace elements of serum including Cu, Zn, Fe, Ca and Mg were measured in sixty-six cases of congenital bile duct dilatation. Results The concentrations of total bilirubin and direct reacting bilirubin in blood were higher than normal. The concentration of blood bilirubin was positive correlation to the concentration of serum Cu(r=0 4682,P<0 05) and was negative correlation to the concentration of serum Zn(r=-0 6023,P<0 01).The concentration of serum Zinc before operation was significantly lower than that after operation(P<0 05).The concentration of serum Cu before operation was significantly higher than that after operation(P<0 01).Conclusion The concentrations of serum Cu and Zn can imply the extents of cholestasis and hepatic injury.
