Objective To investigate the blood pressure response of hypertensive patients during exercise and to evaluate the risk of them, which provides an objective basis for clinical treatment and prescription. Methods A total of 161 clinically diagnosed patients with essential hypertension were enrolled in this study. The treadmill exercise test (TET) was performed with the Bruce regimen. Blood pressure and ST segment changes were monitored during and after exercise, and compared with 176 hypertensive controls. Results Compared with control group, exercise-induced systolic and diastolic blood pressure were significantly higher in hypertension group than those in control group (P <0.05). ST-segment depression induced by exercise was more than that in control group, especially during exercise recovery (P <0.001). The exercise tolerance of hypertension group was lower than that of control group (P <0.05). Conclusion Hypertension patients exercise risk was significantly higher than normal.
