Patients with trisomy 13 (Patau’s syndrome) rarely survive more than 1 year of age. Taylor (1968) based on 74 cases, the average survival was 89.2 days. Magenis et al. (1968) reviewed 178 primary trisomy bodies from 178 different origin and found 86% of the cases died within 1 year of age. It has been reported that there are only a few individual cases of survival over the age of 5, and none of them can exclude patients from being chimerism in more than one type of tissue. The authors report that a boy, now 9 years old, has proven trisomy 13 with blood and skin tissue.
