輪緣的安全性最早出現的輪緣在十八世紀第一次应用于英国矿山的运煤車上。自有铁路以来曾经提出过不少发明創造以解决“强制导向”問題,但是在同样的安全性条件下,都沒有比輪緣更簡单。当代的科学家和实际工作者从出现输緣以后曾經研究車輪与鋼軌問的运动过程和铁道机車車辆脫軌的安全性,并就这个問題写了許多专門著作。脫軌事故的产生,只是在导向力Y大于瞬时的輪載荷Q时出現,所以比值
Rim Safety The earliest rims were first applied to coal mines in the English mines in the 18th century.
