To the editor:Infection with the novel H7N9 influenza virus broke out in the mainland and Taiwan area of China in 2013.1 In critically ill patients the survival was low.2 However,with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) we rescued a critically ill patient infected with H7N9 influenza.The case was a 36-year-old man (weight 100 kg) who had previously been exposed to poultry.On April 21,2013,the patient was admitted to Zaozhuang Municipal Hospital with a temperature of 39℃ and severe hypoxemia.Laboratory results showed a white blood cell count of 3.3× 109/L and neutrophils of 73.7%.Respiratory secretions were sent to the Shandong CDC and it was positive for the H7N9 influenza virus.Then he was treated with oseltamivir (150 mg) every 12 hours.
