2004年的“梦之宫殿”是王美清从伦敦回国之后在新加坡举行的第一个大型展览。这场展览中显示出的幻象性和沉重的物质性之间的矛盾已成为王美清作品的典型特征。墙上是24幅绘制精美并且准确装框的人造翅膀技术图,每一幅都起名叫做《切勿唤醒沉睡之图》。展厅中间是一张摆有绘图板的桌子。这可不是普通的桌子:首先,它上面堆的东西数量惊人——镜子、手提式录音机、植物等等;其次,它自己长出了一对翅膀。这对翅膀显然是昆虫翅膀,但又像是塔特林为他的乌托邦飞行器“列塔特林”设计的翅膀。观者可能会推想,这张桌子可能属于一个为了研究如何让人类飞翔而无止境地绘制昆虫解剖图的男人或者女人。
The 2004 Palace of Dreams was the first large-scale exhibition that Wang Meiqing held in Singapore after returning from London. The contradiction between the illusion and the heavy materiality shown in this exhibition has become a typical feature of Wang Meiqing’s work. On the walls are 24 beautifully crafted and accurately framed artificial wings, each named after “Do not wake the sleeping map.” The middle of the hall is a table with a drawing board. This is not an ordinary table: first, there is an amazing amount of things stacked on it - mirrors, portable tape recorders, plants and so on; and secondly, it grows its own pair of wings. This pair of wings is apparently insect wings, but also looks like Tatling’s wings designed for his utopian aircraft “Tower Talin ”. The viewer may presume that this table may belong to a man or woman who studies how to make human beings fly endlessly drawing insect anatomy.
