5 SIMPLIFIED CALCULATION METHOD OF MAXIMUM LONGITUDINAL FORCE OF TRAINS Longitudinal and longitudinal forces in train operation are the main objects of longitudinal dynamics research. Longitudinal impulses directly affect passengers’ ride comfort. Longitudinal force is basically proportional to longitudinal impulse, and it is the direct factor that leads to train breaking, derailment and other major accidents. But the actual measurement of the hook force is much more difficult than the longitudinal impulse (deceleration)
