在当代电视产业与电视文化研究的学术论述中,收视率与收视率产业的支配性制约一直是相对受到忽略的一环,人们通常对显性的媒体印象极其敏感,却对隐身幕后操作的收视率习焉不察。收视率数字宛如“魔戒”一般,蛊惑着媒体人与阅听众。一些媒体在竞逐“收视率”之后,攫取了巨大的广告利益,争得了令人羡慕的名声,却忘却了媒体人的理想。不必讳言,媒体虽然担负着文化使命,但它终究是依赖大量广告收益来支撑的产业,因而媒体产业的运转必须与广告产业联动,而有效连结这两大产业的,正是收视率与收视率产业。本文在于厘清收视率对电视新闻的影响。当收视率与广告购买机制结合,使得收视率成为电视新闻的评判标准后,同时也改变了传统的专业新闻风貌。而唯有重拾公共利益,重新建立电视新闻专业规范,才是电视新闻解脱收视率束缚的唯一救赎。
