Objective To understand the status of HBsAg infection, hepatitis B virus infection, urban and rural infection and gender-related infection among freshmen admitted to a health school in Henan Province, and to provide basis for the school to make prevention measures. Methods Serological methods were used to detect HbsAg in freshmen in a certain school for nearly 5 years. Results The average positive rate of HbsAg in 5 years was 8.50%, down to 6.91% in 2007; the positive rate of HbsAg in sex was statistically significant (χ2 = 6.35, P <0.01) No statistical significance (χ2 = 0.59, P> 0.05). Conclusions The HBsAg positive rate of enrollment in this school has begun to decline. HbsAg positive rate was significantly higher in boys than girls, no significant difference between urban and rural areas.
