Social needs bring the dynamism of English for specific purposes (ESP) and ESP education becomes an inevitable trend in China.In this essay, some theoretical introductions to the key concepts of ESP such as the origins of ESP, the definition of ESP, the classification of ESP,the relationship between ESP and General English(GE) will be reviewed from the eyes of researchers and scholars abroad. Then,the essay will focus on the ESP research in China.Finally, for further study, suggestions will be given on the issue of how ESP teaching can be made even more effective.
