After the birth of the 7.62 × 39mm intermediate bullet, the Soviet Union’s weapons design experts began to design all kinds of weapons that used the bullets. The design work was carried out by the Soviet Union’s finest light weapons designers such as Jagiegalev, Simonev and PPs -43 Submachine gun designer Sudariev and others, of which the RPD 7.62mm light machine gun was designed in 1944, but at the time to meet the Soviet military demand on the number of weapons, production work has not begun immediately, large-scale production It started in 1946 and was equipped in 1953. China began imitating Soviet-style weapons in the early 1950s with the Soviet-supplied technology and equipment. The 53-type 7.62mm light machine gun, originally manufactured by copying DPM machine guns, was perceived as too bulky, poorly concealed and inconvenient to carry around some time after it was equipped , Then began imitation RPD light machine gun, succeeded in imitation in 1956, named the 1956 7.62mm light machine gun (referred to as 56 light machine gun), which is China’s second generation of generic machine guns.
