M oSi2 is a good wear resistant material with high melting point, medium density, high thermal conductivity and strong oxidation resistance, combined with its high hardness and high modulus of elasticity. It can be used in corrosive or oxidizing environments at room and elevated temperatures. However, M oSi2 at room temperature fracture toughness, low strength at high temperature shortcomings severely limited the M oSi2-based structural materials.
