牛街,位于北京市宣武区中部,是首都少数民族和回族同胞人口最多的街道,有回、满、蒙等17个少数民族1.3万人口。座落在辖区内的有千年历史的礼拜寺,在北京和国内外穆斯林中都有着深远影响。从80年代开始,宣武区人武部组织牛街地区广大民兵和军警民企,积极开展共建精神文明活动,有力地促进了本地区的民族团结和社会进步,奏响了时代文明的动人乐章。1992年,国务院总理李鹏在接见牛街街道办事处主任马中璞时,欣然题写“民族大团结”五个大字。1994年,牛街共建工作荣获北京市精神文明建设先进集体,1996年,牛街又荣获首都军警民共建社会主义精神文明先进单位标兵称号。
Niujie, located in the central part of Xuanwu District in Beijing, is the most populous street for ethnic minorities and Hui nationality in the capital. There are 17 ethnic minorities such as Hui, Manchu and Mongolian population of 13,000. A thousand-year-old mosque located in the area of jurisdiction has far-reaching implications in Beijing and in Muslims at home and abroad. Since the 1980s, the Xuanwu District People’s Armed Forces organized a large number of militia and military and civilian-owned enterprises in Niujie area to actively carry out spiritual and cultural activities in a constructive manner, effectively promoting ethnic unity and social progress in the region and playing an active and moving part in the era. In 1992, when Premier Li Peng of the State Council met with Ma Zhongpu, director of the Niue Street Subdistrict Office, he was pleased to inscribe the five characters “National unity”. In 1994, the construction of Niujie won the advanced collective of Beijing’s spiritual civilization construction. In 1996, Niujie won the title of “Advanced Unit of Advanced Unit of Socialist Spirit Civilization” by the armed forces, the police and the people.
