Before and after June 5 each year, all Japanese veterans came to Chongqing, kneeling in front of the Eighteen Ladder Bridges in the Yuzhong District, holding flowers, laying flower baskets and observing the martyrs’ silences. In China, there are very few cities with such air-raid shelters as Chongqing. Even today, the eighteenth air-raid shelters in Chongqing are more closely related to life. Some people eat kiosks in air-raid shelters, repair motorcycles in air-raid shelters, buy discount books, and sing and dance. Every summer, Chongqing citizens take advantage of cool sleep in the Eighteen Elevators shelter to become a major scenic spot in Chongqing.
