After nearly 20 years of development, ESA finally demonstrated its “Pebble-Columbus” Mercury orbit detector on July 6 at the European Space Research and Technology Center (ESTEC) in the Netherlands and confirmed that it will be available next year Launch in October. The task, costing 1.65 billion euros, is a collaborative project between ESA and Japan’s Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and the first in Europe to track orbit Mercury closest to the sun. Bauer, ESA chief in charge of communications, said that due to the extremely challenging environment of Mercury, 70% of the detector’s technology is designed specifically for this mission
