Objective To analyze the effect of prophylactic antibiotics in urological surgery. Methods From June 2012 to October 2013, 86 patients scheduled for urological surgery in our hospital were randomly divided into two groups. In the control group, 43 patients were treated with prophylaxis according to the patient’s condition before, during and after surgery. In the observation group, 43 cases were treated prophylactically during and after operation. The antimicrobial application rate, postoperative infection rate, medical expenses and hospitalization cost were compared between the two groups. Results The patients in the observation group had significantly shorter duration of postoperative medication, lower cost of medication and hospitalization, shorter hospital stay, and significantly higher cure rate than the control group (P <0.05) There was no significant difference in the incidence of post-infection (P> 0.05). Conclusion In the course of urological surgery, unreasonable prophylactic antibiotics can not reduce the incidence of postoperative infection, at the same time can lead to a substantial increase in the cost of treatment, which should be given great attention in the clinic.
