Japan’s Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, the Department of Science and Technology, and Japan Telecom’s Telephone Company recently decided to jointly develop new large-scale communications satellites and plan to launch experimental satellites in 2002 and put them into use in 2005. The super-static communication satellite planned to be developed will weigh more than 3 tons and will carry a large-scale wireless and high-power radio wave launcher with a diameter of 17 meters that can be opened and closed like an umbrella. The satellite will divide the entire country into more than 10 regions and cover the radio waves, and enhance the directionality of radio waves. As long as there are terminals with a weight of less than 300 grams, it can be clearly received and transmitted in any mountainous region.
