徽州学者的《春秋》学研究，朱熹肇其端。朱熹之后，微州学者的《春秋》研究呈现出两个截然不同的阶段。宋明时期，学者恪守朱子家法，笃志《春秋》研究，博洽先儒，推陈出新。汉学复兴后，学风渐变征实，《春秋》学偏向文字训诂，重视名物、制度考证。
