从中国画史上看,董其昌的“文人画”说得不明确。其《画旨》认为:“文人之画自王右丞始,其后董源、巨然、李成、范宽为嫡子,李龙眠、王晋卿、米南宫及虎儿皆从董巨得来,直至元四大家黄子久王叔明倪元镇吴仲圭皆其正传,吾朝文沈则又远接衣钵。”文人画,顾名思义,乃文人所作之画。
