The NASA Spacecraft Orbiter Reduction Model manufactured by West Germany is ready to fly after the completion of a low-speed wind tunnel qualification experiment in the Netherlands. This 1: 5.24 orbiter is the world’s largest supersonic model that will be used to support the European Hermes manned space shuttle research program. The model will be carried on a launch balloon by a parachute after it has completed a mission that includes a flight at a Mach speed of 1.7. The resulting flight data will be compared to the large number of flights previously recorded on the NASA space shuttle.
