J. von Neumann (1903-1957) is probably the most famous mathematician of the 20th century, not because of his mathematical work (though that is a good one), but because he has “Father of the computer” crown. Of course, he still has many pioneering contributions to the theory and application of modern science, all of which have a profound and far-reaching impact on the historical process of mankind. No wonder America’s Life magazine named him “one of the 100 most influential people in the millennium.” Among these prominent figures, he is almost the only mathematician.
