The central topic of this essay is to emphasize the double role played by the novel in the process of China’s modern history. It is not only the main medium for expressing the vision of the nation-state since the 20th century, but also an important part of the modernity of Chinese culture. The article begins with a picture of the massive fictional stories that China has produced since the late 19th century. It traces the evolution of fictional style in the context of historical, social and cultural changes, explores the founding of fiction in form, content and theme, Innovation and distortion, and changes in the publishing and receiving process. The dissertation discusses concrete examples of modern, modern and contemporary novels, and shows the far-reaching impact of traditional culture, international politics, scientific and technological progress and media changes on this novel style. This article seeks to answer the following questions: When and how does China’s novels narrate the “modern” modernizations? What are the major hallmarks of the development of modern Chinese novels? In what ways do Chinese writers change the story of Chinese? What are the main genres and categories included? What are the important authors and works? What is the impact of the literary awards?
