约瑟夫·沃伦·史迪威,1885年出生在美国东海岸帕拉特卡市,17岁时考入西点军校,成为西点军校1900级中年龄最小的新学员。毕业后,史迪威到远在菲律宾马尼拉的第12步兵团服役,不久随美国著将领潘兴将军参加了第一次世界大战。战争结束后,史迪威先后两次来到中国,并成为美军少有的“中国通”。1955年史迪威再次来华担任武官。珍珠港事件后,他被提名为盟军中国战区参谋长兼中缅印战区美军司令,来到中国参加对日战争。
Joseph Warren Stilwell was born in the city of Palatka on the east coast of the United States in 1885 and was admitted to the West Point at the age of 17 as the youngest new student at 1900 West Point. After graduation, Stilwell served in the 12th Infantry Regiment in Manila, Philippines, and soon joined General Pershing, the general of the United States, in World War I. After the war ended, Stilwell twice came to China and became a rare “China pass” to the U.S. military. 1955 Stilwell once again come to China as military attache. After the Pearl Harbor incident, he was nominated as chief of staff of the Allied Chinese Theater and commander of the U.S.-Burma-Indian war zone to come to China to participate in the war with Japan.
