介绍了外墙外保温的优越性、基本构造、对工程质量和材料使用的要求。具体介绍了中英合作改建和新建的两栋示范建筑所采用的外墙外保温的选材与施工，并进行了技术经济分析，结果表明：以北京地区为例，２４ｃｍ砖墙加５ｃｍ聚苯乙烯外保温做法与传统３７ｃｍ砖墙做法相比，投资回收期为３．１年；新建建筑全部外保温费用远低于由于采用外保温而增加使用面积的增值。
