As an English writer in South Africa after the era of apartheid, J.M.Cuchet’s work implicitly contains the existentialist philosophy with its distinctive philosophical and unique authenticity. The characters in the novels of Coetzee endure the purgatory survival predicament in the chaotic nocturnal “civilization ” world and face “doomed failure ” They experience the helpless marginalization and strong lack, fall into freedom Choose the dilemma, and make all sorts of attempts to get rid of the existing crisis, and sincerely and perseveringly seek the possibility of salvation and proof of existence. It is not difficult to think of Sisyphus’s fight against destiny. This article tries to use the existentialism theory of Sartre and Camus to interpret the characters in Coetzee ’s works, aiming at digging the philosophical thinking on the spiritual endings of human beings contained in the works from the depth.
