Objective To investigate the status of oral health problems and the distribution of obesity among students in a vocational college and to analyze the relationship between oral health problems and obesity. Methods A total of 2 489 adolescents aged from 14 to 22 were enrolled in a vocational college in Nanjing. The general information of the students, including age and gender, was collected. Physical examination included height, weight and blood pressure. Meanwhile, oral hygiene was collected through questionnaire information. Results The detection rate of overweight, obesity and caries were 11.6%, 3.1% and 2.2%, respectively. The prevalence of overweight and obesity decreased with age, while no association was found between overweight, obesity and dental caries (P> 0.05). The proportion of gingival bleeding in the low body weight group was higher than that in the normal group and above in the last 2 weeks (2 = 5.60, P = 0.021). Conclusion Adolescent obesity and low weight detection rate is relatively high, showing a double malnutrition. There was no significant correlation between overweight, obesity and dental caries, while low-weight teenagers showed higher bleeding tendency than normal body weight and overweight and obesity.
