调查性新闻一般被称为深度报道,在我国通常把新闻报道分为正面报道和负面报道,大多数调查性新闻的主要内容是负面的、丑恶的社会现象,因此,调查性新闻又称“揭丑”报道,专门用来揭露社会阴暗面、政府里的黑幕、大企业的罪恶勾当以及“黑社会”的内幕等,并对某一或某类社会事实或社会现象所进行的深入系统或深入详细的报道,有较广的社会影响力。正因如此,调查性新闻也成为舆论监督的重要手段,对于从事调查性新闻工作的记者来说无疑是个挑战,这要求记者掌握运用好各类采访技巧,进行独立、深入、细致、全面的侦查式、访问式调查,从而全面深刻地挖掘报道事件或问题发生的原因、背景、结果、影响等。
