曾国藩一生特别敬业,自外放后,长年累月忙于公事,没有休息日,甚至连大年三十和正月初一都要批阅公文。然而,曾国藩也不是那种毫无情趣的人,有时间,他也会与幕客们一起去风景名胜地“潇洒走一回”。咸丰八年(1858年)九月,时任帮办团练大臣的曾国藩驻军江西建昌府,十六日吃完早饭,曾国藩即与一帮朋友游览了当地著名的风景区麻姑山,欣赏了半山亭、试剑石、双瀑泉、乌龟潭、水月潭、伏狮潭、金龙潭、龙门桥、仙都观、五忠祠、丹霞洞等一系列景致。
