Stephen Zweig is one of the most popular Austrian writers in the world. His works mainly focus on depicting and analyzing female psychology. Many literary critics call him a vulgar writer because of his life’s indifference to politics. However, his works are not simply depictions of love and affection. Many of his biographies, plays and novels are against war and oppose dictatorship. Advocating world peace and humanitarianism. His last piece, “The Story of Chess” (1942), although describing the game of two chessmen, is actually exposing and criticizing the fascist brutal rule led by Hitler.
