在中国青年艺术剧院演出的《远方青年》中,我扮演了沙特克这一角色。沙特克,是社会主义时代新青年的典型,是作者热情歌颂的英雄形象。塑造这样一个英雄形象,对我来说实在是件吃力的工作。首先,扮演英雄人物在我是第一次,因此在如何塑造英雄人物形象的课题上,我是毫无经验的。另外,由于工作需要,我们没有可能到新疆去较长期地深入生活,因而,只能借助于间接的生活素材;在京郊农村作短期的访问、了解;和在京的少数民族同志交朋友。不可能直接到新疆去体验生活,对我的创造也带来了困难。而更重要的是,我和角色的思想水平相距甚远,他高我低,不用说“演”,就是“懂”我都不能完全懂得他。因此,创造沙特克的过程,也是我在 In the “Youth of the Distance” performance at the China Youth Art Theater, I play the role of Saudi Turk.
