T: Good afternoon. Welcome to my chemistry lab. This is your first time to come here. I wish we could have a good time together, and learn something interesting about chemistry. So, at first, everybody relax, smile, and enjoy yourselves.
T: As we know, chemistry is magical, chemistry is attractive, and chemistry is amazing. So, I have a question, when we refer to chemistry, that means talk about chemistry, what do you think of first?
S: …experiment
T: Yes! That is experiment, so let’s do an experiment to feel chemistry. Are you ready? Hold your breath, and look at me carefully. What’s this?
S: Fire mountain, chocolate…
T: No, it’s a “volcano”. Today, we will do a “volcano” experiment.

T: wow, it’s amazing! Can you see the fire? Can you smell something?This is chemistry. This is chemistry experiment. This is chemistry reaction. What’s the meaning of this word, reaction?

T: And today, we will focus on metal reaction. Aha, do you know the Chinese meaning of those two words?

T: Yes, you are right. You do a good job.
T:Ladies and gentlemen, in our world, what kind of metal do you think is used widely? Yes, you are right. Fe. What is the Chinese meaning? Yes, 鐵. Do you know the English expression of Fe?Iron. We know iron can be used in many aspects. For example, my dream black “Porsche”, your desks, and our trains. However, one day, they will be like this, and what happen to them? S: 锈了
T: Yes, perfect, “rust”. So go with me, read it, rust, rust. Thank you so much! Well done! I think you don’t wanna rust happen in your life. We must find the way to stop it.
T: Today we will do iron experiment together to find in what situation iron can be rusted.
T: Now, I have a question, when we do experiment, what we should know? For example, why should we do the experiment? That is aim. Now, your turn, what we should know?
S: …
T: When we do experiment, we need five parts. The first is aim. What does aim mean? That means goal(目标). Go with me, aim, aim. The second is apparatus, it means equipment(仪器,设备). Go with me, apparatus, apparatus. The third part is method, do you know the Chinese meaning of this word? That means way(方法). The forth part is result. The last one is conclusion, that means sum up. Go with me, conclusion, conclusion.
T: Okay, everyone, close your eyes. Let’s recall them. When we do experiment, we have five part.
T&S: The first is aim, the second is apparatus, the third part is method, the forth part is result, the last one is conclusion.
Step two: Learn passage B.
T: Okay, open your English book, turn to page 45. Look at the iron experiment, and let’s do it together. At first, please find the five parts of the experiment. Use your pen to circle them.
S: (circle them)
T: Thank you, okay, look at me everyone. In this experiment, what is the aim, who wants to tell us. Translate for us.
S: To find out if iron rusts (a)in dry air; (b)in water that has no air in it (air free water); (c)in ordinary water.
T: What are the apparatus. Let’s say them together.
S: ①3 clean iron nails; ②test tubes; ③test tube holder; ④cotton wool⑤oil; ⑥Bunsen burner.
T: How many methods in this experiment?
S: Three.
T: Good! Your task is to use the three methods to do the experiment and find the results and the conclusions. Hello, everyone. We have ten groups here, one and two, three and four, five... One, two and three, you do the first method. Four, five and six you do the second method. The rest, you do the third method. Every group you have ten pictures, and your task is to find out the correct pictures according to your method and give a correct order. And hold your pictures to come here to show us your steps and tell us your result and conclusion.

Step three: Learn passage A.
T: All of them, the eight metals probably can react with oxygen, cold water or steam? So everyone, open your English book, turn to page 44, passage A, to find out the answers. Now, I give you two minutes to read it. Read loudly.
Step four: Write a lab report.
T: Well, I think you have found the reactions of these metals. According to the reaction, each group choose one metal and reaction, using the form to write a lab report. I give you five minutes to finish it, and to show us.
