The homologous antibody of high titer from hamsters induced by parenteral vaccination against leptospirosis confered some passive immunity, whilst the sera from oral immunized animals were low in antibody titers and could not passively transfer immunity.
Allogenic transfer with the spleen cells of hamsters either from oral or parenteral immunization against leptospirosis to the unimmunized animals irradiated with Cobalt60 γ or treated with cyclophosphamide confered immunity to subsequent infection. Thus it seems that acquired cellular resistance in the oral immunized animals appear to be the most important mechanism of resistance against leptospirosis.
