Objective: To explore the value of nerve conduction velocity in early diagnosis of asymptomatic type 2 diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Methods: Motor neuron conduction velocity (MCV) and sensory nerve conduction velocity (SCV) were measured in 60 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and 60 normal subjects who met the inclusion criteria. Electrophysiological analysis was performed. Results: The peripheral nerve conduction velocity (NCV) in patients with type 2 diabetes showed significant difference compared with normal people (P <0.01). The difference of SCV abnormal rate and MCV abnormal rate was statistically significant (P <0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Nerve conduction velocity testing has a high early diagnostic value for asymptomatic type 2 diabetic peripheral neuropathy and can be used as a routine and preferred screening item in patients with diabetes mellitus.
