At the crossroads of grammar and pragmatics, we found that the simple bipolar analysis (mainly singular and plural, and countable and uncountable) of the nouns used did not encompass all categories of nouns. For example, in English there are nouns that differ in their homonymy but are either countable or uncountable: a cake and some cake. This difference only involves the speaker’s point of view.
