After four years of arduous efforts, the renovation project of the Changzhou section of the southern Jiangsu Canal has come to a complete end and has been recently handed over for inspection. The Changzhou section of the southern Jiangsu Canal has a total length of 44.486km. Due to the disrepair, water scour, bank collapse, sediment deposition and poor waterway conditions, the Changzhou area’s economic development has been restricted. The municipal government conducted the first and second phases respectively in 1984 ~ 1988 and 1993 ~ 1996.
