壮族提线木偶戏流传在广西壮族自治区西部的靖西、德保、那坡、田阳、天等、大新等壮族地域,历史悠久,代代相传,沿袭至今。由于经过历代艺人不断继承和发展,使这个剧种逐步得到完善而深深地扎根于壮乡,成为壮族人民喜爱的戏剧艺术。壮族木偶戏在传统剧目、音乐唱腔、语言道白、脸谱造型、服装设计等方面都具有浓厚的民族特色和地方色彩,充分展示了壮族文化习俗和表现出壮族人民的审美情趣。壮族木偶戏脸谱的审美特征,是个值得研究的问题。本文谨此浅而议之。壮族木偶戏俗称“木头戏”,由戏师运用五根吊线操作表演,用壮语南部方言演唱。为了使剧中人物表演得栩栩如生,戏师除了在唱腔、韵白、操作等方面下功夫外,木偶头雕刻绘画也
