The 12-meter-high one-legged chair in the photo above stands on a lawn in front of the Palais des Nations of the United Nations European headquarters. This is the famous Swiss sculptor Daniel Bu Seite in 1997 on behalf of the International Federation of the Disabled to commemorate the “Landmine Protocol” and the official entry into force. Today, the Global Compact Leaders Summit 2007 is just across from the chair. To witness this chair again, I feel a loss of the world. Today, with the development of economic globalization, the corporate social responsibility advocated by the Global Compact should be an important channel to make up for such absence and create a beautiful world. From July 5-6, 2007, the United Nations’ European headquarters at the Palais des Nations in Geneva welcomed the deputies from all walks of life in more than 90 countries on five continents in the midst of the waving flag of the nations and opened the prelude to the “2007 Global Compact Summit.” . More than 1,000 representatives gathered to review the implementation of the ten principles of the Global Compact in the areas of labor, human rights, the environment and anti-corruption, share practical experience and achievements in fulfilling their responsibilities, and discuss common problems and solutions.
