Thirteen parameters of respiratory function including spiro-gram, pulmonary capacities, V-V curve and respiratory resistancewere measured in 52 cases with chronic obstructive pulmonarydisease, of whom 27 cases were simple chronic blonchitis and 25cases were chronic bronchitis complicated with emphysema.Thirty-four healthy subjects were taken as control. A new discriminantformula was derived from stepwise regression .Eight indices includingAge, FEV_1, %MVV, MVV, Rrs, V50/H,RV and RV/TLC% weretaken into consideration in the discriminant formula. It seemedthat the formula might be applied to evaluate respiratory functionproperly in patients with chronic bronchitis complicated withemphysema, however, it has little significance in assessing thatin patients with chronic bronchitis, because the above changes inrespiratory function were more obvious and rersistent in theformer group of patients than in the latter group.
